Jaipur: Ravi Tyagi, who sold fake degrees from various universities to thousands of students, was absconding for the past one and a half years. During his escape, he hid sometimes in Kedarnath, sometimes in Vrindavan, sometimes in Kashi Vishwanath, sometimes in Omkareshwar and sometimes in Ujjain. He evaded the police by hiding in various religious places across the country. Notice also a strange coincidence that as long as he remained hidden at religious places, he was not caught, but as soon as he went to meet his girlfriend, he was caught by the SOG.

Ravi Tyagi had a reward of 25 thousand rupees.

SOG ADG Vishal Bansal said that a case related to fake degrees was registered at the SOG police station last year. Hundreds of candidates who had submitted fake degrees were selected in various government job recruitments. After the case was registered, when the SOG began investigating, it was revealed that several universities were selling fake degrees. On April 9, 2025, when the SOG raided OPJS University in Churu, Ravi Tyagi had fled. The SOG had announced a reward of 25,000 rupees for Ravi's arrest.

The Chancellor, Director and Registrar of the University have been arrested.

The arrested accused, Ravi Kumar alias Ravi Tyagi, son of Shrinivas Tyagi, is a resident of Kanasil village, located in the Kolari police station area of ​​Dholpur district. He used to work at JS University, Shikohabad, Uttar Pradesh. Accused Ravi Tyagi sold backdated fake degrees and mark sheets to hundreds of students. When the Special Operations Group (SOG) raided OPJS University in Churu in connection with the fraudulent degree case, Ravi fled. He suspected the SOG was about to raid JS University, Shikohabad, as well. The SOG has arrested a total of 18 accused, including the Chancellor/Director and former Registrar of OPJS University, Churu, and JS University, Shikohabad, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with the sale of fake degrees to thousands of students.

Big fraud in PTI recruitment

The racket of selling fake backdated degrees was rampant during the 2022 Physical Education Teacher Recruitment Examination. Operators of various private universities, through brokers, sold fake backdated degrees to thousands of students. Crores of rupees were extorted. When the fraudulent selection of candidates in the 2022 PTI recruitment came to light, the Special Operations Group (SOG) registered a case and began an investigation. During the investigation, instances of the sale of fake degrees in recruitments across various departments also surfaced.
