Farmers awaiting the 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme have been issued an important update. The government has made it mandatory for beneficiaries in several states to obtain a Farmer ID, failing which the upcoming ₹2,000 installment may be withheld.
New Rule Comes Into Effect
Under the PM-Kisan scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal installments. While the 22nd installment was recently disbursed, attention has now shifted to the next payout. Authorities have introduced a new requirement, making Farmer ID registration compulsory—especially for new applicants, though existing beneficiaries are also expected to comply जल्द.
States Where Farmer ID Is Mandatory
The requirement has been लागू in multiple states, including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. Farmers in these regions must complete their registration to continue receiving scheme benefits.
Expected Timeline for 23rd Installment
PM-Kisan payments are typically released every four months. Following the 21st installment in November 2025 and the 22nd in March 2026, the 23rd installment is expected around June or July 2026, though the official date is yet to be confirmed.
What Is a Farmer ID and Why It Matters
The Farmer ID is a unique digital identification system that stores key details such as land ownership, crops, and income. It aims to ensure transparency, prevent fraud, and guarantee that benefits reach genuine farmers. Additionally, it helps streamline access to subsidies, insurance, and other agricultural schemes.
How to Register
Farmers can apply for a Farmer ID through their respective state agriculture portals or the AgriStack platform. Required documents include an Aadhaar card, a linked mobile number, and land records. The process also involves completing e-KYC verification.
