There is important news for millions of farmers across India. The government has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31. A total financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore has been approved for the scheme during this period.

Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmer families continue to receive ₹6,000 per year directly in their bank accounts. The amount is divided into three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each.

Farmers Get ₹6,000 Directly Into Their Bank Accounts

PM-KISAN was launched in February 2019 with the aim of providing income support to eligible landholding farmer families.

Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive:

• ₹6,000 financial assistance every year

• Payment in three equal instalments

• ₹2,000 in each instalment

• Money transferred directly through DBT

• Aadhaar-based authentication and digital verification used for beneficiary identification

The government says the system has been designed to make payments more transparent and reduce delays in transferring assistance.

Scheme Extended Till 2030-31

The latest Cabinet approval means PM-KISAN will continue for another five-year period, from 2026-27 through 2030-31.

The government has allocated ₹3.15 lakh crore for the continuation of the scheme. This is aimed at ensuring continued income support for eligible farmers and helping them meet some of their agricultural and household financial requirements.

What Can Farmers Use the Money For?

The financial assistance can help farmers manage expenses related to agricultural activities. According to the government, beneficiaries have used the support for items such as:

• Seeds

• Fertilisers

• Irrigation

• Agricultural machinery

• Other farming requirements

An evaluation cited by the government found that more than 92% of beneficiaries reported using the assistance for agricultural activities and investment.

More Than 9 Crore Farmers Benefited From the 23rd Instalment

The scale of the scheme can be understood from its latest payment data. Under the 23rd instalment, more than 9.49 crore farmers received benefits, with over ₹18,984 crore transferred.

Overall, the government says that more than ₹4.47 lakh crore has been transferred directly to farmers through 23 instalments since the scheme began.

Women Farmers Are Also Benefiting

The scheme has also provided significant financial support to women farmers. According to government data, women farmers have received more than ₹1.06 lakh crore under PM-KISAN.

The government also said that nearly one out of every four beneficiaries is a woman farmer.

How Is the Money Transferred?

PM-KISAN uses a digital payment system. Beneficiary verification, Aadhaar authentication and the Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism are used to transfer the money into eligible farmers' bank accounts.

This means farmers do not have to collect the assistance physically from a government office once they are approved beneficiaries and their payment details are correctly linked.

Farmers Should Keep Their Details Updated

Farmers who are already registered under PM-KISAN should make sure that their Aadhaar, bank account and other beneficiary details are correct.

If there is an issue with authentication or beneficiary information, the payment may be delayed. Therefore, checking the beneficiary status and keeping the required details updated is important.

A Major Support for Small and Marginal Farmers

For farmers who depend heavily on seasonal agricultural income, even a regular ₹2,000 instalment can provide some additional liquidity during the farming cycle.

With the government now approving the continuation of PM-KISAN until 2030-31, eligible farmers can expect the scheme to remain an important part of the government's direct income-support system in the coming years.
