Farmers across India continue to receive direct financial assistance through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. In an important update this year, the Union Cabinet approved the continuation of PM-KISAN from 2026-27 to 2030-31, with a total financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore.
The scheme remains one of the government's major direct-income-support programmes for eligible landholding farmer families.
Farmers Can Receive ₹6,000 Every Year
Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmer families receive financial assistance of ₹6,000 per year. The amount is transferred directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), subject to the scheme's eligibility and verification requirements.
The assistance is generally provided in three instalments of ₹2,000 each, helping farmers meet some of their agricultural and household expenses.
Scheme Extended for the Next Five Years
The latest Cabinet decision means the scheme will continue during the 2026-27 to 2030-31 financial years. The government has allocated ₹3.15 lakh crore for its continuation.
This extension is significant because it provides continued policy support to eligible farming households rather than ending the programme with the previous financial cycle.
Who Can Benefit?
PM-KISAN is primarily intended for eligible landholding farmer families, subject to the exclusion criteria and other conditions specified under the scheme.
Farmers should ensure that their details are correctly recorded and that required verification and compliance requirements are completed. Ineligible beneficiaries are excluded under the scheme's rules.
Why Aadhaar and Bank Details Matter
Since financial assistance is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account, accurate records are important. Farmers should check that their Aadhaar-related information, bank-account details and other required records are correctly linked and updated.
If a payment does not arrive as expected, beneficiaries should first check their registration and verification status rather than paying an intermediary.
Beware of Fake PM-KISAN Messages
Government schemes are frequently used by scammers to target beneficiaries. Farmers should be cautious of messages promising an immediate payment in exchange for an OTP, bank password, UPI PIN or processing fee.
Do not share confidential banking information with anyone claiming to be a government representative.
A Long-Term Support Programme for Farmers
The continuation of PM-KISAN until 2030-31 gives eligible farmers continued access to direct financial assistance. For households dependent on agriculture, even a relatively small periodic payment can help with routine farming-related expenses.
However, beneficiaries should always verify their eligibility and payment status through official government channels and rely on the latest scheme guidelines before taking any action.
