There was a lot of talk that plastic currency would soon be available in the market. For the past several days, meetings were underway at the RBI regarding the introduction of plastic currency into India's currency. Some time ago, news broke that polymer notes would soon be available in the market, leading to discussions about whether demonetization would occur again. However, the RBI later approved it and clarified that no demonetization would occur. After that, the RBI proposed testing plastic notes to  the government , which the government has now approved. Plastic notes will be tested.
The government recently approved testing of 10 and 20 rupee plastic notes before they are introduced into the market. This will require the production of 1 billion polymer notes of both denominations. On Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman provided a written response in the Rajya Sabha, detailing the details.

What did the Finance Minister actually say?
In his written response, the Finance Minister clarified that the government has approved this proposal. According to the RBI, these polymer notes will be issued alongside the existing paper notes. He also stated that the RBI has stated that the process of purchasing these polymer notes is still in its initial stages. Therefore, it is not possible to predict when polymer notes will be available in the market or how much it will cost to manufacture or purchase them.

First Limited Trial
It's worth noting that a few days ago, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), following a recommendation from its Central Board, sent this proposal to the government. The proposal stated that these notes would first be tested on a limited scale. If this trial is successful, polymer notes in the ₹10 and ₹20 denominations could be issued regularly in the future.

Now, with government approval, these notes are expected to be released into the market soon. However, it is also clear that paper notes will remain in circulation as they are; there will be no changes to them, nor will they be discontinued.
