If you're a PhonePe user, this news is important for you. According to social media and several reports, users may be charged inactivity fees if they don't use their PhonePe wallet for a long period of time. This has many people wondering if money will also be deducted from their bank accounts.
What is the whole matter?
There's talk of inactivity fees associated with the PhonePe wallet. This means that if a user doesn't use their wallet for a long period of time, fees may be applied to the balance in that wallet. However, this rule applies only to the wallet, not directly to the bank account.
Will money be deducted from your bank account?
Most importantly, if your PhonePe wallet doesn't have a balance, money won't be deducted from your bank account just because the wallet is active. This means your linked bank account is completely safe. Inactivity fees apply only to wallet balances, meaning if a user hasn't used their wallet for a long time and still has a balance, fees may apply.
What is the difference between a wallet and a bank account?
Many people think the PhonePe app and PhonePe wallet are the same thing, but they are different. For example, UPI payments are made directly from a bank account and require an advance deposit into the wallet. If you're only using UPI and don't keep any money in your wallet, there's no need to worry.
What should you do?
Check your wallet balance regularly.
Keep your wallet empty unless absolutely necessary.
Check official notification regularly.
Don't believe rumours immediately.
Does this happen with other apps too?
Some digital wallet companies charge a maintenance fee or inactivity fee for a wallet that's been inactive for a long time. However, each company has different rules. So, for now, if you're a PhonePe user, there's no need to panic. Money won't be deducted from your bank account just because you haven't used your wallet. But keep checking your wallet and app updates regularly.
