Important news has emerged for working youth. The Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is considered the most reliable savings scheme for financial security after retirement. Following the central government 's final approval of the 8.25% interest rate for the financial year 2025-26, interest will soon be credited to the accounts of the country's 80 million EPF account holders.
Following approval from the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment, the EPFO has directed all regional offices across the country to credit interest at the rate of 8.25 percent to members' accounts. This interest rate will apply to deposits made by both employees and employers during the financial year 2025-26. Significantly, the EPF interest rate has remained at 8.25 percent for the third consecutive year. This will significantly increase the retirement funds of millions of employees.
Importantly, the interest crediting process is expected to be faster than before. The EPFO recently completed the modernization of its database system and software. Therefore, there will be no need to wait for several weeks at various stages, as was the case previously. Many account holders expect their interest to be credited to their accounts much faster.
In March of this year, the EPFO Central Board of Trustees approved an interest rate of 8.25% for 2025-26. The proposal was then sent to the Finance Ministry. With final approval in June 2026, the path is now clear for interest to be credited to the account.
