PhonePe has introduced an AI-powered natural language search feature aimed at making in-app payments faster and more intuitive. The new capability allows users to complete tasks using text or voice commands, reducing the need for traditional menu-based navigation.
Built on Microsoft Foundry, the feature can interpret commands such as “Pay Hemanth 20 rupees” or “Recharge FASTag” and automatically open the relevant payment interface. Beyond simple commands, it also understands user intent—whether the user wants to make a payment, complete a purchase, or seek help.
PhonePe uses a hybrid AI model, combining on-device and cloud-based processing, while ensuring that all personal and transactional data remains securely stored.
Speaking about the launch, PhonePe CTO Rahul Chari said the feature marks a shift from basic transactional tools to intelligent interfaces that anticipate user needs. He emphasized that the system is designed to deliver value without compromising privacy or security.
Highlighting the collaboration, Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, said Microsoft Foundry enables PhonePe to deploy AI at scale while maintaining security and reliability for millions of users.
The AI-powered search feature is being rolled out in phases across India and can be accessed via the global search bar, Help Center, and History tab within the PhonePe app.
