Several new rules have come into effect today, October 1st, making services like Aadhaar updates and speed post more expensive. Requests for money will no longer be sent over UPI, and the first 15 minutes of railway ticket bookings will be reserved for Aadhaar-verified users. These changes will directly impact the common man's wallet and daily routine.
Rules Changing From October 1: Starting today, October 1, several new rules have come into effect, directly impacting your daily life and your wallet. From requesting money through UPI to booking railway tickets and updating your Aadhaar card, many major changes have occurred. Let's understand in simple terms what has changed from today.
1. You can no longer request money via UPI.
If you used to send a 'collect request' for money to someone on UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm, this feature has now been discontinued. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) took this step to prevent online fraud and cheating. You'll now have to transfer money directly.
2. Now you can invest 100% of your pension money in the stock market.
Non-government employees will now be able to invest their entire pension amount (100%) in equity-related instruments. Previously, this limit was only 75%. This could increase your chances of earning higher returns.
3. First 15 minutes of railway ticket booking is only for these people
Now, within the first 15 minutes of online train ticket booking, only those with verified Aadhaar cards will be able to book tickets. The Railways has implemented this rule to prevent ticket black marketing and simplify the booking process.
4. New rules for online gaming
New rules have also come into effect today to bring transparency to online gaming. These include age limits for players and licensing requirements for companies, making it safer.
5. Keeping a locker in PNB has become expensive
If you have a locker with Punjab National Bank (PNB), you'll now have to pay more for it. The bank has increased charges for locker and some other services effective October 1st.
6. Sending speed post also became expensive
The Postal Department has increased the rates for Speed Post. This means you'll now have to pay more to send Speed Post than before. Furthermore, Speed Post delivery will now be based on an OTP. The delivery person will only deliver the package to you after verifying the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
7. RBI's new facility for cheque payments
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is launching a new facility for check payments that will speed up check clearance starting October 4. This facility will be implemented in two phases.
8. Banks will remain closed for 21 days in October
This month, there are several festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja, which means banks will be closed for a total of 21 days. However, these holidays will vary from state to state. Therefore, be sure to check the holiday list before visiting the bank.
9. Changed rules for updating Aadhaar card, now higher charges will be applicable.
- Fees have increased: Changing information on your Aadhaar card, such as your name or address, will now cost ₹75. Biometric updates, such as your photo or fingerprint, will cost ₹125. However, getting a new Aadhaar card is still free.
- Updating a 10-year-old Aadhaar is mandatory: If your Aadhaar card is more than 10 years old and you haven't updated it, it's now mandatory to update it. You'll need to submit documents and pay a fee.
- Father's/Husband's Name Will No Longer Be Displayed: For those over 18, the father's or husband's name will no longer be displayed on their Aadhaar card. Furthermore, instead of the date of birth, only the year of birth (e.g., 1990) will be displayed.
- New documents for changing address: Now only bank statement or utility bills like electricity and water will be valid for changing the address.
