The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Shillong has taken a darker and more horrifying turn, as police recreate the crime scene and uncover chilling confessions from the accused. According to the Meghalaya Police, Raja was killed in cold blood after a signal from his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is now the prime accused in the brutal conspiracy.

Crime Scene Recreated: The Signal That Sealed Raja’s Fate

On Tuesday, the Shillong police reconstructed the crime scene in Sohra, where Raja was murdered on 23 May during what was supposed to be a romantic trip. Based on confessions from the accused, investigators revealed that Sonam gave a pre-decided signal to the killers while Raja went to use the toilet near a parking area.

According to East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem:

“Just before the attack, Sonam signaled the killers. Raja was unaware and vulnerable at that moment.”

Deadly Ambush: How the Murder Was Executed

• Vishal alias Vicky struck the first blow on Raja’s head with a sharp weapon.

• Anand and then Akash followed with further blows, leaving Raja gravely injured.

• Blood poured out from Raja’s wounds as he collapsed.

• Sonam, in a dramatic twist, screamed and fled the scene, pretending to be shocked, even though she was the mastermind.

• The attackers threw Raja’s body into a ditch near a waterfall before escaping.

How the Plot Unfolded

Raja, a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, had recently married Sonam on 11 May 2025. Their honeymoon turned into a murder plot when Sonam allegedly conspired with her lover Raj Singh Kushwaha and three accomplices — Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi.

Seventeen days after the murder, the Meghalaya Police cracked the case and arrested all five accused, including Sonam. They were brought to the site where the crime took place and confessed during police interrogation.

Motive: Just a Love Triangle?

While the police suspect a love triangle as the core motive, they are not ruling out deeper conspiracies, including black magic, family manipulation, and financial greed.

The murder weapon has been recovered near the waterfall, strengthening the evidence trail.
