A horrifying case of obsessive love turned fatal in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, when a man murdered his girlfriend after she refused his sudden proposal for marriage. The victim, Kavita Gupta, was stabbed multiple times in front of her 2-year-old daughter near Bargi Dam, turning a casual outing into a gruesome crime scene.

Shocking Turn of Events at Bargi Dam

On Sunday, Kavita had gone to Bargi Dam with her lover Naman Vishwakarma, who lived across the street from her in Baldevbagh. The two had been in a relationship for over three years, despite Kavita being married and a mother.

At the dam, Naman suddenly proposed marriage, but Kavita declined. Enraged, he attacked her with a knife, inflicting seven deep wounds before fleeing the scene. Passersby spotted the blood-soaked woman and called emergency services, but she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The Child Witnessed It All

Perhaps the most heartbreaking aspect of the tragedy was Kavita’s innocent daughter, who witnessed the horrifying attack. After her mother's death, the child clung to her father's lap, crying and pleading, "Papa, let’s go to Mumma." Her father tried to console her, telling her that her mother had gone to get toffee and would return soon.

Husband Aware of Affair, Tried to Save Marriage

Kavita’s husband, Puneet Gupta, revealed he had discovered the affair a year ago and tried to salvage the relationship. But emotional and psychological pressure from Naman escalated over time.

Kavita’s dying declaration confirmed that Naman had been blackmailing and pressuring her to marry him for months. Her consistent refusals led to the fatal attack.

Police Action and Legal Developments

Police have registered a case of murder under section 101 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Previously, the accused was booked under section 109 for abetment. Now, multiple teams are deployed to track and arrest Naman, who is currently on the run.

Additional SP Suryakant Sharma confirmed that Naman’s arrest is imminent.
