Google has decided to improve its existing Pixel Buds lineup instead of launching a completely new pair of premium earbuds. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a are receiving new software features designed to improve noise cancellation, voice controls, and connectivity across Google's device ecosystem.

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 is also getting a new Olive colour option, giving users another design choice without introducing a new hardware generation.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 Gets a New Olive Colour

Google has introduced an Olive colour variant for the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Orders for the new colour are set to begin from August 12.

While there is no new Pixel Buds Pro model, Google is using software updates to add several new capabilities to the existing earbuds.

Dynamic ANC Can Automatically Adjust Noise Cancellation

One of the major additions is Dynamic ANC.

The feature can automatically adjust active noise cancellation based on changes in the surrounding environment and the way the earbuds fit inside the user's ears.

For example, if the fit of an earbud changes slightly while walking or moving around, the system can adjust its processing to maintain more consistent noise cancellation.

This could make ANC more convenient because users won't need to manually change settings every time their surroundings or earbud fit changes.

Gemini Can Control Earbud Settings With Your Voice

Google is also expanding Gemini's role on the Pixel Buds.

With Gemini Audio Control, users can change certain earbud settings using voice commands. This can include adjusting the equaliser or increasing the bass without manually opening the Pixel phone's settings.

The feature is aimed at making common audio adjustments quicker and more natural, particularly when users are already wearing the earbuds.

Pixel Watch Can Tell the Earbuds When You're Asleep

Another interesting addition is Sleep Sync, which connects the Pixel Buds with a compatible Pixel Watch.

When the Pixel Watch detects that the user has fallen asleep, the earbuds can automatically pause whatever audio is playing.

The system can also disable the earbuds' touch controls to prevent accidental taps while sleeping and mute incoming notifications.

This means users can potentially fall asleep while listening to music or other audio without worrying about the playback continuing all night.

When Will the New Features Arrive?

Google says the new software features will begin rolling out in September for compatible Pixel Buds devices.

The update focuses on improving the existing Pixel Buds experience rather than replacing the current hardware with a new premium model.
