Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh: The death of a young Lekhpal, Sudhir Kumar Kori, has triggered widespread anger and protests in Fatehpur district. Sudhir, who died by suicide on Tuesday in Khajuha under Bindki police station, was to be married the very next day. His family alleges harassment by departmental officials and is demanding a formal FIR, prompting a large-scale demonstration.

Despite three rounds of talks between the family and administrative officials, no agreement has been reached. Authorities maintain that action will be taken only after a full investigation, while the family insists that an FIR must be filed immediately. Late on Tuesday night, DM Ravindra Singh and SP Anup Kumar Singh reached the spot for negotiations, but discussions remained inconclusive.

Protests intensify

On Wednesday morning, the Lekhpal Sangh began a sit-in protest at the spot, raising loud slogans of “No FIR, No SIR.” The Advocates’ Association of Bindki Tehsil has also extended support, announcing a boycott of tehsil work in solidarity with the Lekhpal community. Until now, no senior administrative officer has issued a formal statement on the incident.

What happened?

Sudhir Kumar Kori (25), a resident of Khajuha, was posted as an SIR in Jehanabad Assembly constituency. His wedding was scheduled for November 26, and preparations were already underway at home. However, on Tuesday morning, he was found hanging in his room. The exact reason for his suicide remains unknown.

According to the family, Sudhir had been under pressure and was allegedly threatened with suspension by senior officials. They claim that Kanungo Sudhir (a senior revenue officer) visited their house at around 6 a.m. and left after giving him a bundle of forms for filing. At around 7 a.m., Sudhir locked himself inside his room. When he did not respond, family members broke in around 7:30 a.m. and found him hanging.
