The Chinese automobile market has witnessed another major innovation as Nissan unveiled its latest premium SUV, the Nissan NX8. Introduced under the brand’s new N-Series lineup, this model follows earlier launches like the N6 and N7 and is designed specifically for China, showcasing the company’s push into next-generation electrified mobility.
What makes the Nissan NX8 stand out is its dual powertrain strategy, offering both a fully electric version and an extended-range electric variant. The extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configuration combines the efficiency of electric driving with the practicality of a petrol engine, delivering an impressive claimed total driving range of up to 1,450 kilometers. This makes it particularly appealing for long-distance users who want the benefits of electric mobility without range anxiety.
In terms of design, the NX8 adopts Nissan’s latest V-Motion styling language, giving it a futuristic and aerodynamic appearance. The front features a closed grille complemented by full-width daytime running lights and a split headlamp setup, while the rear is highlighted by sleek OLED tail lamps. The SUV measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,917 mm, ensuring a spacious and comfortable cabin. Its proportions place it above the Nissan Rogue in size while remaining slightly smaller than the Nissan Pathfinder.
Inside, the NX8 emphasizes luxury and technology. The cabin is equipped with dual 15.6-inch infotainment displays and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, all powered by the advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset for seamless performance. The SUV also integrates modern safety technologies, including an advanced driver assistance system developed in collaboration with Momenta, enhancing both convenience and safety.
Performance-wise, the fully electric version of the NX8 is available with two motor outputs, delivering up to 250 kW (335 hp). It is paired with an 81 kWh battery that offers a driving range of up to 650 km on the CLTC cycle. One of its most remarkable features is ultra-fast charging capability, supporting up to 463 kW, which enables the battery to be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 12 minutes.
The EREV variant, however, is where the SUV truly differentiates itself. It combines a 1.5-liter petrol engine with a powerful electric motor, allowing the vehicle to run up to 310 kilometers purely in electric mode. This effectively means that for daily commuting, the SUV can function like a full EV, while the petrol engine extends the range for longer journeys. With a combined range of up to 1,450 kilometers, it offers a practical solution for users transitioning toward electric mobility.
Overall, the Nissan NX8 represents a significant step forward in hybrid and electric vehicle technology, blending performance, efficiency, and cutting-edge features. Its introduction highlights how automakers are increasingly focusing on flexible powertrain solutions to meet diverse consumer needs while accelerating the shift toward electrification.
