Naxalite commander Hidma, carrying a bounty of Rs 1 crore, killed; his wife also killed in encounter

Notorious Maoist commander Madvi Hidma and his wife were killed in a major encounter on the border between Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Hidma was believed to be the mastermind of more than 26 attacks, including the 2017 Sukma attack.

An encounter broke out between security forces and Naxalites in a forest near the Andhra Pradesh-Chhattisgarh border. Top Naxalite commander Madvi Hidma and his wife were shot and killed in the encounter. Security forces were conducting a search operation to apprehend Maoists in the border areas of Andhra Pradesh's Alluri district and Chhattisgarh's Sukma district. During this operation, Naxalites opened fire on the soldiers.

Madvi Hidma was 43 years old. He had been a challenge to security forces for the past two decades. He not only headed Battalion No. 1 of the PLGA (People's Liberation Guerrilla Army) but was also the youngest member of the Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist). His strategic thinking and ability to conduct guerrilla warfare in the jungles made him one of the organization's most influential figures.

He was the mastermind of the Sukma attack.

Hidma was born in 1981 in the Purvarti area of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh. At a young age, he joined the Maoist organization and became a commander. In 2013, he was the main conspirator in the Darbha Valley massacre in Chhattisgarh, in which 27 people, including senior Congress leaders, were killed.

He also played a key role in the deadly 2017 Sukma attack on the CRPF, which killed 25 soldiers. He planned and executed at least 26 major attacks. He carried a bounty of 1 crore rupees.

His wife was also involved in Naxal activities.

Andhra Pradesh police and Special Forces had been receiving information about his activities for a long time. In the latest encounter, security forces launched an operation by laying siege to the forest based on intelligence. Hidma and his wife were killed in the ensuing fire. His wife also played a key role in the Naxalite organization and was active in several operations.

Security agencies believe that Hidma's death will deal a major blow to the Maoist organization. He was not only a key strategist but also played a crucial role in maintaining the organization's hold in South Bastar. His death will weaken the Maoist network and make it easier to control their activities in the forests.
