In a statement, the consulate expressed condolences:

The viral post, shared by a user identified as Advocate Ishu Tyagi, reads:

“Tanya Tyagi, a student from Vijay Park, Northeast Delhi, died of a heart attack in Canada. Her family has urged the PMO to help bring her body home.”
