Moradabad’s ‘Special-26’ Gang Busted: Extorted Money Using Fake Govt. Vehicle

The Moradabad police have arrested three individuals who were posing as fake sales tax officers and extorting money from traders. These fraudsters, inspired by the Bollywood movie "Special 26", used a vehicle with a Uttar Pradesh government sticker to appear legitimate.

How the Scam Was Exposed

Two businessmen from Moradabad’s Katghar area filed complaints against the gang. They reported that three individuals, claiming to be from the Sales Tax Department, arrived at their warehouse in a white Bolero with a UP government sticker. The fraudsters conducted a fake bill inspection, declared the bills invalid, and demanded money.

After handing over the money, the traders grew suspicious and reported the incident to the actual Sales Tax Department. Officials confirmed that no such officers or vehicle existed, leading the victims to approach the police.

Police Action and Arrest

Upon receiving the complaint, the Moradabad police swiftly took action and detained all three suspects. Investigations revealed that they had been targeting multiple traders, extorting sums ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 per victim.

Superintendent of Police Kumar Ranvijay Singh confirmed that the fraudulent vehicle and cash were recovered. The accused, all residents of the Civil Lines area, are currently under interrogation, with police expecting further revelations.

This case highlights how criminals exploit official identities for financial gain, but also demonstrates how vigilant citizens and swift police action can put an end to such scams.
