According to the Hindu calendar, the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi of Margashirsha month is known as Mokshada Ekadashi. As the name suggests, this Ekadashi is believed to grant moksha (salvation). Devotees worship Lord Vishnu and especially Lord Krishna, whose blessings are considered extremely powerful on this day.
In 2025, Mokshada Ekadashi will be observed on Monday, 1 December, which is also celebrated as Gita Jayanti—the day Lord Krishna revealed the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna in Kurukshetra.
It is believed that observing this fast destroys sins, brings peace to ancestors, and frees them from the cycle of birth and death. Along with fasting and worship, certain remedies involving peacock feathers and the Bhagavad Gita are believed to be especially auspicious on this day.
