The bodies of a retired police inspector and his wife were found hanging inside their residence in Meerut on Wednesday morning, police said. The incident occurred in the Rakshapuram area under the jurisdiction of the Ganganagar police station.
According to initial reports, the deceased have been identified as retired Inspector Lallu Singh and his wife. The matter came to light when their domestic help arrived at the house for routine work and discovered both bodies hanging from a ceiling fan. All doors of the house were reportedly open at the time.
The maid immediately raised an alarm, following which nearby residents were informed. A neighbor alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The bodies were taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police officials said that, at present, the case is being treated as a suspected suicide, though all angles are being examined. No suicide note has been confirmed so far.
Station House Officer Anoop Singh stated that a detailed investigation is underway. The couple is survived by two children—a son, who is a retired Air Force personnel and resides in the Ganganagar area, and a daughter who lives with her in-laws. Police said both children had regular contact with the deceased and are being questioned as part of the inquiry.
Authorities have stated that further details will emerge after the post-mortem reports and completion of preliminary investigations.
