A shocking and brutal incident came to light early Tuesday morning in the Sarangarh–Bilaigarh district of Chhattisgarh, where three members of the same family, including a young child, were killed after a neighbour attacked them with an axe while they were asleep. Two other family members, one of them a pregnant woman, sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.
The incident occurred around 4:30 am in Jhal village under the Dongripali police station area of the Barmkela block. According to police officials, Kunwar Sai’s family was sleeping when their neighbour and relative, Tulsi Sarathi (26), entered the house armed with an axe (tangiya) and began attacking the family members indiscriminately.
Two victims died on the spot due to severe injuries, while a child succumbed while being rushed to the hospital. The injured survivors were immediately shifted for medical care, and their condition is reported to be critical.
Five-Year-Old Dispute or Something More?
Initial investigations suggest that there was an old dispute between the two families dating back nearly five years. Tulsi Sarathi reportedly worked as a hotel labourer and had returned to the village just three days before the incident. His father, Shaukeelal, told police that Tulsi left home around 4 am claiming he was going to the forest. Soon after, loud screams were heard from the neighbour’s house. When villagers rushed to the spot, they found a horrifying scene with blood scattered across the house.
Police Act Swiftly, Accused Arrested
After receiving information about the attack, Dongripali police, along with forensic experts, reached the spot and began their investigation. The accused attempted to escape after carrying out the attack but was quickly surrounded and arrested by the police.
Village Gripped by Fear and Mourning
The gruesome incident has left the entire Jhal village in shock and mourning. An atmosphere of fear prevails in the area, prompting police to deploy additional security forces. Forensic teams are collecting evidence from the crime scene, and authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused following a thorough investigation.
