Maruti Suzuki is preparing to introduce an updated version of its popular premium hatchback, the Baleno. The facelift is scheduled to arrive on September 5, bringing styling revisions and potentially some new features while largely retaining the mechanical setup of the current-generation model.
The second-generation Baleno was introduced in 2022, and the upcoming update is expected to give the hatchback a fresher appearance and help it remain competitive in a segment where buyers are increasingly looking for more features.
Front design could get the biggest makeover
The front of the updated Baleno is expected to receive the most noticeable changes.
Test vehicles spotted on the road suggest that Maruti Suzuki could introduce a redesigned grille with a horizontal element running between the headlamps. A chrome finish may also be used to give the front a more prominent appearance.
The basic headlamp shape is expected to remain similar to the current model. The familiar boomerang-style LED daytime running lights could also continue.
The front bumper, however, may receive a new design. Test cars have been seen with a revised bumper, while the fog lamps appear to have been removed compared with the existing model.
Side and rear changes expected to be subtle
The overall side profile of the Baleno is not expected to change significantly with the facelift.
One of the noticeable updates could be a fresh alloy-wheel design. The changes at the rear are also expected to be relatively minor, with a redesigned bumper potentially being introduced.
The existing tail-lamp design, roof spoiler, and rear wiper are expected to continue.
Interior may get new features
The dashboard layout of the facelifted Baleno is expected to remain broadly similar to the current model. The 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, three-spoke steering wheel, and silver-finished AC vents could continue.
However, Maruti Suzuki may introduce some additional features and cosmetic upgrades to make the cabin feel more modern.
Possible additions include updated seat upholstery, ambient lighting, and a single-pane sunroof. If these features make it to the production model, they could make the Baleno more attractive to buyers looking for a feature-rich hatchback.
Other existing equipment, such as automatic climate control, a six-speaker audio system, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and an auto-dimming IRVM, is also expected to remain available.
Engine options may remain unchanged
The facelift is not expected to bring major mechanical changes.
The petrol version is expected to continue with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, producing around 90 hp. It is expected to remain available with a 5-speed manual and an automated manual transmission.
The CNG version could also continue with the existing powertrain, producing around 77.5 hp and being paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Keeping the existing engines would allow Maruti Suzuki to focus the update primarily on styling, equipment, and customer appeal rather than making major mechanical changes.
Baleno continues to be an important model for Maruti Suzuki
Despite the growing demand for SUVs, premium hatchbacks continue to have a place in the Indian car market, and the Baleno remains one of Maruti Suzuki's key offerings in this category.
The facelift is expected to combine a refreshed exterior with potential feature upgrades while retaining the familiar mechanical package.
With the launch scheduled for September 5, more details about the final design, features, variants, and pricing are expected to become clearer closer to the launch.
