Important news has emerged for government employees. The central government has simplified the process of transferring pensions from the National Pension System (NPS) to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in the event of the death or disability of a government employee. To address these difficulties, the Finance Ministry has implemented a new and revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This new change will simplify and expedite the process of submitting documents for employees' families to receive their pensions.
This decision by the central government has brought significant relief to the families of government employees. For government employees who unfortunately die or become disabled, the process of transferring their pension from NPS to OPS has become easier.
This revised SOP, approved by the Finance Ministry, replaces the old guidelines issued on September 17, 2025. Previously, transferring pensions from NPS to OPS posed administrative and technical difficulties. The new changes have now addressed these difficulties.
What did the Finance Ministry say?
The Finance Ministry said in a statement that in view of the difficulties faced in the transfer process and to simplify the process, a revised SOP has been approved. The Ministry has directed the concerned parties to take necessary steps to implement this revised SOP. It has also directed all concerned officers and employees to disseminate its rules. After the migration process from NPS to OPS is completed, a new regular Pension Payment Order (PPO) will be issued to the pensioner.
The relevant government office and pension officials are responsible for preparing this new PPO. Upon receiving the new PPO, the pensioner must submit their old Provisional Pension Payment Order (PPPO) to the relevant bank. The bank will then accept the old PPPO and send a copy to the relevant authorities. Pensioners will be required to submit a life certificate to the bank every November. This rule will remain in effect.
