Luxury Dreams Turn Crime: Brother-Sister Duo Arrested for ₹8 Lakh Theft in Hapur

A shocking case from Hapur highlights how the lure of a lavish lifestyle pushed a group of youngsters into crime. In Indralok Colony under the Dehat police station area, a brother-sister duo along with their accomplice allegedly carried out a theft worth lakhs from a businessman’s residence—motivated by their desire for branded clothes, expensive gadgets, and luxury living.

Theft Planned with Inside Information

According to police, the accused carefully planned the crime after conducting multiple reconnaissance visits. The mastermind, Isha Gupta, was reportedly a neighbor of the victim and also a friend of his wife. Due to frequent visits, she became familiar with the house layout and even discovered where the keys were usually kept.

The incident took place on March 24, when the family of timber merchant Kuldeep Goyal stepped out briefly to visit a local temple. Within that short window, the accused broke into the house, targeting cupboards and safes.

By the time the family returned, the house was ransacked. The thieves had escaped with approximately ₹8 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery.

Police Crack the Case Using CCTV Clues

Following the complaint, police registered a case against unknown persons and began a detailed investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas played a crucial role in identifying suspects.

As the probe progressed, police uncovered a well-organized plan involving multiple individuals. Shalini alias Shalu, along with her brother Akash, joined hands with Isha Gupta to execute the theft. Another accused, Mannu, was also involved in the operation.

Arrests Made, Stolen Goods Recovered

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested three accused near the Doyami Dhanaura bypass:

  • Isha Gupta
  • Shalini alias Shalu
  • Akash

During the arrest, police recovered:

  • Gold and silver jewellery
  • ₹11,000 in cash
  • An Aadhaar card and bank passbook

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they worked as makeup and mehndi artists at weddings but turned to theft to fund their expensive lifestyle choices.

One Accused Still Absconding

Police confirmed that another accused, Mannu—brother of Shalini—remains on the run. He is believed to be the one who physically entered the house during the theft. A search operation is currently underway, and officials have assured that he will be arrested soon.
