In a bizarre turn of events, officials from the Lucknow Municipal Corporation were left stunned when they discovered 19 cows and buffaloes hidden inside bedrooms and drawing rooms during a crackdown on illegal dairy operations in Royal City Colony.

Illegal Dairy Raid Turns Surreal

The special drive was launched after repeated complaints from residents about filth, waterlogging, and unhygienic conditions caused by illegal dairies. When officials arrived at a suspicious house on Bijnor Road, the cattle owner had locked the animals inside his luxurious home in a desperate attempt to evade seizure.

Led by Animal Welfare Officer Dr. Abhinav Verma, a joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Animal Welfare Department, and police worked for nearly three hours to unlock the house. Once inside, the scene shocked everyone: cows and buffaloes tied up in bedrooms and the drawing room, with dung scattered everywhere and a strong stench filling the house. Dr. Verma admitted this was the first time in his career he had seen animals hidden in such a manner.

19 Animals Seized and Sent to Kanji House

The operation resulted in the confiscation of 11 buffaloes, 4 heifers, 3 cows, and 1 calf, all of which were sent to the Aishbagh Kanji House. Officials confirmed that the animals will be released only after the owner pays the prescribed fines.

Residents’ Complaints Prompt Action

Local residents had repeatedly raised concerns about illegal dairy farming in the colony, citing problems such as:

• Open dumping of animal waste

• Waterlogging and unhygienic conditions

• Risk of mosquito-borne and other diseases
