Lucknow: Marriage Talks Turn Violent as Girlfriend’s Brothers Slash Boyfriend’s Throat; Victim Gets 18 Stitches

A love affair took a brutal turn on Valentine’s Day in Lucknow, where a young man was allegedly attacked by his girlfriend’s two brothers while discussions over marriage were underway.

The incident occurred on February 14 around 5:30 pm in Khushalganj area under Para Police Station limits. The victim, Mahendra Kannaujiya (25), works as a shuttering engineer and had invited his girlfriend to his home for marriage talks with family members.

Brothers Storm In, Attack with Surgical Blade

According to police, the woman’s younger brothers—Shivam Gautam and Anurag Gautam—suddenly arrived at the house, entered the veranda, pinned Mahendra to the ground, and slit his throat using a surgical blade typically used in operation theatres.

The attack left Mahendra unconscious and critically injured.

Family’s Quick Action Saves Victim

Mahendra’s father Santosh Kannaujiya and his brother Ramesh Kannaujiya intervened immediately, snatching the blade from the attackers and apprehending both brothers on the spot.

The injured man was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors administered 18 stitches to his neck. He is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Case Registered, Accused Sent to Jail

The victim’s family produced the accused along with the weapon at the Para police station and submitted a written complaint. Police have registered a case under serious sections, including attempt to murder.

Inspector-in-Charge Para confirmed that both accused have been arrested and sent to jail. Shakeel Ahmed stated that further legal action will follow based on the ongoing investigation.
