Before the Holi festival, the common man keeps a close eye on government decisions regarding cooking gas prices. To avoid disrupting their household budget during the festive season, people remain vigilant about changes in the prices of gas and other fuels. Let's explore the current situation regarding LPG cylinder prices ahead of the Holi celebrations in 2026.
Relief or burden before Holi?
Oil marketing companies (OMCs) review gas prices on the first of every month. Commercial gas cylinder prices saw an increase of around ₹50 in early February 2026. However, it's a relief that the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder hasn't seen any significant changes for quite some time.
The good news for middle-class families is that the government has attempted to keep domestic gas prices stable. It's expected that the next review, scheduled for March 1, 2026, will also see no increase in domestic cylinder prices, so that Holi delicacies don't become more expensive.
Difference between commercial and domestic cylinder
It's important to understand that gas prices are set in two categories:
Domestic cylinders: This 14.2 kg cylinder, used for home cooking, receives special attention from the government. Currently, its price in Delhi hovers around ₹853.
Commercial cylinders: The price of 19 kg cylinders used in hotels and restaurants fluctuates based on international market conditions. In February, its price in Delhi reached ₹1740.50.
Special gift for Ujjwala beneficiaries
On the occasion of Holi, beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) are receiving an additional subsidy of ₹300 from the government. This means that these families are getting cylinders at a significantly subsidized rate. The government's goal is to ensure that clean fuel reaches every household during the festive season and that poor families are not burdened financially.
Will prices change in March?
Experts believe that international crude oil and LPG prices continue to fluctuate. If global prices rise, this could impact commercial cylinders. However, given the election year and the festive season, a rise in domestic gas prices is unlikely.
Beware: Gas theft and black marketing
Gas demand often increases during festivals, and some anti-social elements take advantage of this by resorting to black marketing or theft of gas from cylinders. Always check the seal when purchasing a cylinder and always book from an authorized vendor.
Overall, the situation appears to be under control for domestic gas consumers before Holi 2026. Even if there are minor changes in prices, the government will try to provide relief to the common man through subsidies. Continue your Holi preparations and remember to book your cylinder on time to avoid last-minute hassles.
