Lost your phone? Do this important task in just 5 minutes

Nowadays, a mobile phone isn't just a means for making calls. It also contains our photos, contacts, banking apps, social media, and many important documents. Therefore, instead of panicking over a lost phone, we should take some important steps immediately.

1. First, call your phone.
Try calling your number from another phone. It could have been dropped nearby or found by an honest person. Even if the phone is on silent, use the following options to find it.

2. Find your phone's location.
Use official features like Google's Find My Device for Android phones and Apple's Find My for iPhones. This can provide options to check your phone's location, lock it, or erase its data if necessary.

3. Lock your phone immediately.
If your phone's location appears to be in an unknown location, remotely lock it. You can also display your alternate contact number or message on the lock screen.

4. Block your SIM.
Contact your mobile network operator to have your SIM blocked immediately and, if necessary, obtain a replacement SIM with the same number. This can reduce the risk of OTP misuse.

5. Secure Important Accounts
Change the passwords for your Google/Apple accounts, email, social media, and other important accounts. Especially secure those containing sensitive information first.

6. Pay attention to banking apps.
If there were banking or payment apps on the phone, contact your bank or the relevant payment service and take necessary security measures.

7. File a police report If
your phone is stolen or is unlikely to be recovered, file a police report with your local police. Keep the phone's IMEI number, bill, or other available details.
