Karnataka DGP Objectionable Viral Video: Karnataka DGP, who was seen kissing women and fondling their breasts, has been suspended. A video of Karnataka DGP and senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao doing obscene acts in his office chamber while wearing uniform went viral. After this, CM Siddaramaiah took action and suspended him. Ramachandra Rao was posted as DGP (Civil Rights Enforcement) in Karnataka. However, Ramachandra Rao has categorically denied all the allegations. He said that these videos are completely fake and false.
It should be noted that on Monday, several obscene videos of senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao went viral on social media. In the videos, the Karnataka DGP was seen hugging, kissing, and fondling the breasts of various women. The audio footage caused a stir within the administration and political landscape. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the state government immediately decided to suspend Rao.
As soon as the matter came to light, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah received a detailed briefing from the department. The Chief Minister was extremely angry after watching the video. Rao, currently serving as Director General of the Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate, has categorically denied these allegations. DGP Ramachandra Rao has described the video as completely morphed and termed it a conspiracy to target him. The government is now investigating the authenticity of the video and the allegations of indiscipline. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was reportedly very angry about the matter, and there is talk in political circles that strict disciplinary or legal action could be taken against the officer. The matter has become even more controversial because Rao is the father of the main accused in the gold smuggling case, Ranya Rao.
After the viral video, the officials had come to meet the Home Minister.
Speaking to the media outside the residence of Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara, Rao said, "I am completely shocked. These videos are fabricated. I have nothing to do with them." He also said that in today's times, anyone can be made into a fake video and this could be a conspiracy to tarnish their image. According to reports, when asked if these videos could be old, 1993 batch IPS officer Ramachandra Rao said that if we talk about old videos, they were about eight years ago, when he was posted in Belagavi. However, he reiterated that he had no connection to the videos. After the videos went viral, Rao attempted to meet with the Karnataka Home Minister, but was unable to. The government has indicated that the entire matter will be investigated and further action will be taken based on the investigation report.
Ramachandra Rao is the father of Ranya Rao, an accused in the biggest gold smuggling case.
IPS Ramachandra Rao is the same officer whose daughter and actress Ranya Rao was arrested in Karnataka's biggest gold smuggling case. In March 2025, she was arrested while returning from a trip to Dubai, and 14.8 kg of gold bars worth approximately ₹12.56 crore were recovered from her. Following her arrest, agencies raided her residence on Lovell Road in Bengaluru, uncovering a significant amount of wealth. Authorities seized gold and jewelry worth approximately ₹2.06 crore and ₹2.67 crore in cash. The case gained further traction when questions arose about the alleged links between Ranya Rao's stepfather and senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao.
