Serious questions have emerged over police action in the high-profile Lamborghini accident on Kanpur’s VIP Road after videos circulating on social media allegedly showed Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco businessman K.K. Mishra, at the scene immediately after the crash, even as his name does not figure in the FIR.

The accident, which occurred earlier this week, left six people injured, including one identified as Taufiq, who later filed a complaint. According to the complainant, Shivam Mishra was driving the luxury car at high speed when it hit pedestrians. However, the FIR registered by Gwaltoli police mentions the accused as “unknown,” triggering allegations of selective action and possible protection.

Viral videos contradict police version

Two videos of the incident, now widely shared on social media, appear to show the Lamborghini stopping after the crash, followed by the arrival of a Fortuner vehicle. In the footage, several men, described by eyewitnesses as bouncers, are allegedly seen breaking the car window, pulling out the driver, and taking him away from the spot.

The complainant has claimed that he explicitly named Shivam Mishra in his written complaint, raising the question of why the police did not include his name in the FIR.

Questions over police conduct

The controversy deepened after it emerged that the Lamborghini was initially parked inside the police station covered with a tarpaulin. After media reports questioned the move, the cover was removed. Critics allege that the act was intended to conceal the vehicle’s identity and ownership.

Victims have also alleged that bouncers linked to the businessman were present at Gwaltoli police station and misbehaved with them when they arrived to pursue their complaint. According to the allegations, the bouncers continued to threaten the victims inside the police premises, while police personnel remained silent.

Background of the family

The Mishra family has previously been under scrutiny. In 2024, the Income Tax Department conducted raids in which a collection of luxury cars reportedly worth over ₹100 crore was allegedly detected, including a Rolls-Royce at a Delhi residence. These details have resurfaced amid allegations that influence is being used to dilute the current case.

Demand for transparency

Eyewitnesses and local residents have demanded an impartial investigation, warning that delays or omissions could weaken the case. They have called for clarification on why the FIR does not name the individual identified by the complainant and visible in videos circulating online.

Police officials have not yet issued a detailed public response addressing the discrepancies raised. The investigation, they say, is ongoing.
