A disturbing incident outside the Jhunjhunu railway station in Rajasthan has brought the local police under heavy scrutiny after CCTV footage of officers mercilessly beating a shopkeeper went viral. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on August 2 at Pranav Food Shop, where ASI Omprakash from Kotwali police station was clearly caught on camera violently assaulting shopkeeper Nahar Singh with a stick.

According to Nahar Singh, the assault began when two youths asked to charge their phones at his shop late at night. After initially allowing them, he later refused, at which point one of the youths approached a patrolling police vehicle and falsely claimed he had been assaulted by the shopkeeper. Soon after, the shopkeeper alleges, drunken policemen barged into his shop, with ASI Omprakash launching a brutal attack, hitting him with over 50 blows from a stick for nearly 10 minutes. Nahar Singh tried to defend himself with a chair, which broke under the force of the beating.

The ordeal did not end there. Nahar Singh was forcibly taken to the police station, where he was kept overnight and only released the following evening—by then charged under section 151. Meanwhile, the shop remained open, and the very youths whom he had earlier refused entry allegedly stole his mobile and charger. Despite suffering serious physical and mental trauma, Nahar Singh said he was unable to report the assault due to intense fear and pressure from the police.

The CCTV footage circulating on social media unmistakably captures ASI Omprakash repeatedly hitting the shopkeeper, a scene so violent it has caused widespread shock in the city. The case has ignited public outrage, with many demanding strict action against the policeman involved and justice for the victim. So far, the police department has not issued an official statement, but the viral video has laid bare the brutality, sparking important questions about police behavior and accountability in Jhunjhunu.
