Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh: Police have arrested a man in connection with an incident of alleged desecration at a Shiva temple in the Chhoti Bajariya area of Jabalpur. The incident reportedly occurred on the night of February 9, around 9:30 pm, under the jurisdiction of the Gadha police station.

According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Rizwan Khan, also known as Rizzu and Bhura. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to hurting religious sentiments and maintaining public order. He was produced before a court and subsequently sent to judicial custody.

Following the incident, members of various Hindu organizations visited the temple and performed ritual purification of the Shivalinga. Religious hymns were recited, and the temple premises were ceremonially cleansed using water from the Ganga and Narmada rivers. A significant number of devotees were present during the rituals. Police forces were deployed in the area to ensure security.

Leaders of the local Muslim community also condemned the incident. In a memorandum submitted to the police, they stated that the accused does not represent their community and that his actions are not supported. They called for strict legal action against him to prevent similar incidents in the future and appealed for social accountability.

In view of the upcoming Mahashivratri festival, the district administration has increased police patrolling in temples and other sensitive locations. Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay urged citizens to maintain peace, avoid rumors, and cooperate with authorities. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to disturb communal harmony.

Police officials stated that the situation is currently under control and continues to be closely monitored.
