With 47 matches already completed in the IPL 2026 season, the battle for playoff spots has entered a निर्णायक phase. While teams like Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals have shown strong performances so far, the competition remains wide open. Interestingly, all 10 teams are still mathematically in the race for the playoffs, making the remaining matches even more crucial.
Here’s a detailed look at where each team stands and how many wins they need to secure a place in the top four.
Punjab Kings in Pole Position
Punjab Kings are currently leading the points table with an impressive run this season. Out of their nine matches, they have won six, lost two, and one match ended without a result. With five matches still to play, Punjab needs just two more wins to almost confirm their playoff berth. Their consistent performance has put them in a comfortable position compared to other teams.
RCB Close to Qualification
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have also had a strong campaign so far. With 12 points from nine matches, they are well-placed in the standings. Like Punjab, RCB also have five matches remaining and require just two wins to secure a playoff spot. If they maintain their current form, qualification looks highly likely.
Sunrisers Hyderabad in Control
Sunrisers Hyderabad have played 10 matches and secured six wins. With four league games left, they too need only two victories to reach the playoffs. Their balanced performance with both bat and ball has kept them firmly in contention.
Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans in Similar Position
Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans are in almost identical situations. Both teams have won six out of their 10 matches and have four games remaining. For both sides, the equation is simple—two more wins will be enough to seal a playoff berth. Their upcoming matches will be crucial in deciding their final standing.
Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals Face Tough Challenge
Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals are still in the race but face a tougher road ahead. Both teams have won four out of their nine matches and have five games left. To stay in contention, they will need to win at least four out of their remaining five matches, which is a challenging but not impossible task.
Kolkata Knight Riders Need a Perfect Finish
Kolkata Knight Riders find themselves in a difficult position. With five matches remaining, they must win all five games to keep their playoff hopes alive. Any slip-up could end their chances, making every match a virtual knockout for them.
Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Still in the Hunt
Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants may be at the lower end of the table, but they are not completely out of contention yet.
Mumbai have won only three out of their 10 matches and have four games left. To stay alive in the playoff race, they must win all four matches and also depend on other results going in their favor.
Lucknow Super Giants face a similar situation. With five matches remaining, they need to win all five games and hope for favorable outcomes from other teams’ matches.
