Instagram and Facebook Update – Government becomes strict regarding Instagram and Facebook, labels are mandatory on AI posts

Friends, as we all know, in today's modern era, social media has become a part of our lives, and with the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), concerns about deepfakes and misleading content have increased significantly. To address these challenges, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has implemented new regulations aimed at making online platforms more secure and transparent. Let's learn the full details.

Mandatory labeling of AI content

Under the new guidelines, all AI-generated content—including photos, videos, and audio—must be clearly labeled. Platforms must now ensure that users can easily identify whether content was created using artificial intelligence. This move aims to reduce the spread of false and misleading information online.

Strict timelines for content removal

The government has also set strict deadlines for removing illegal or harmful content. Social media platforms must take action within three hours of receiving a directive from a court or authorized government agency. These rules are specifically designed to curb the rapid spread of deepfakes, misinformation, and other objectionable content.

Strict action against harmful and misleading content

MeitY has directed platforms to implement advanced technical safeguards to prevent the misuse of AI. Strict action will be taken against content that is obscene or misleading, or that uses someone's identity without consent.
