This year, employees are going to have a Diwali holiday. Following the announcement of a 78-day bonus for Indian Railway employees, India Post employees will also receive a bonus. According to the postal department's order, eligible regular employees will be given a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 60 days' salary for the financial year 2025-26. Let's find out which employees will benefit from this decision and how the bonus will be calculated.
Which employee will get the bonus?
According to the order of the Postal Department, eligible employees of three categories will get the benefit of this decision.
Regular employees – Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees will be given bonus on the basis of 60 days' salary.
Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) – Eligible Gramin Dak Sevaks doing regular work will get Ex-Gratia Bonus.
Eligible Casual Employee – Eligible full-time casual employees and employees with temporary status will be paid ad hoc bonus as per rules and not on contract basis.
How will the bonus be calculated?
The bonus for regular employees will be calculated on a 60-day basis, with an eligible monthly salary limit of ₹7,000.
Bonus is calculated as per this formula – Bonus = Eligible Monthly Salary × Bonus Days ÷ 30.4
Assuming a monthly eligible salary of ₹7,000, the 60-day bonus comes to ₹13,815.79. The actual amount will be determined based on the employee's qualifications, salary, and number of days worked.
What are the rules for casual employees?
Eligible full-time casual employees must have worked for three or more consecutive years by March 31, 2026. Additionally, certain eligible regular employees who leave their jobs between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, due to resignation, retirement, or other reasons, may also receive the bonus, as per applicable rules.
Meanwhile, the central government has announced a 78-day productivity-based bonus for 1.14 million railway employees. A provision of ₹2,009.61 crore has been made for this. Eligible employees are expected to receive a maximum bonus of ₹17,951.
