In fact, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched in February 2024 by the Government of India, the PM Surya Ghar, Muft Bijli Yojana (PM Surya Ghar, Muft Bijli Yojana) is a mission to connect homes across the country with solar energy. Under this initiative, rooftop solar systems are being installed, enabling people to generate their own electricity. The government has allocated a budget of over ₹75,000 crore for this scheme, and the target is to provide solar power to 10 million homes by 2026-27. Under this scheme, if a solar system of the appropriate capacity is installed in a home, up to 300 units of electricity can be obtained free of charge each month. Excess electricity generated can be sent to the grid, providing additional benefits to consumers. This not only reduces electricity bills but also provides relief from future rising electricity rates.

How much subsidy will be available under the scheme?

The government provides direct subsidies for installing solar panels. This subsidy is determined based on the system's capacity. A 1-kilowatt system receives up to ₹30,000 in assistance. A 2-kilowatt system receives a subsidy of up to ₹60,000. Furthermore, systems over 3 kilowatts receive a maximum subsidy of ₹78,000. This scheme is available only to Indian citizens who own a home and have a valid electricity connection. The only condition is that the applicant must not have previously received any other solar subsidy. The roof of the house must be suitable for installing solar panels.

How can you apply to avail the benefits of the scheme?

• The application process for PM Surya Ghar Yojana has been kept online.
• In this, the applicant first has to register by visiting the website www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in .
• After this, the application is made by entering the electricity consumer number.
• Now, after getting technical approval from DISCOM, solar panels are installed through registered vendors.
• After the installation and inspection is completed, the net meter is installed and then the subsidy is sent directly to the bank account.
