If you see these symptoms in your eyes, understand that your kidneys are failing! Recognizing the symptoms early can save your life

The eyes are one of the first warning signs of kidney failure. Swelling, redness, blurred vision, or dark circles can be an early warning sign of kidney failure, not just fatigue.

Kidney Damage Symptoms: The kidneys are a vital organ in our body, responsible for filtering blood, removing toxins, and maintaining water-sodium balance. However, kidney damage often begins slowly, with no pain or obvious signs in the early stages. However, some changes in the eyes can be prevented from progressing if detected early.

Dr. Prakhar (Medical Director, Patchouli Aesthetics & Wellness) explains that the most common sign is puffy eyes in the morning. This occurs when the kidneys are unable to remove protein from the body, and it accumulates in the body instead of being excreted in the urine. This protein and water become trapped in the tissues, causing swelling on the face, especially around the eyes.

Another sign is blurred vision. This is most common in patients with diabetes or high blood pressure. When kidney function weakens, fluid and blood pressure build up in the body, affecting the small blood vessels in the eyes and causing blurred vision. Some people also experience burning, itching, and dryness in the eyes. This can be a sign of electrolyte imbalance and dehydration.

If you have these symptoms along with:

  • Urine is foamy
  • Urinating less or more frequently
  • Swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet
  • Symptoms such as weakness, fatigue, or shortness of breath

This could be a sign of a kidney problem and should be investigated immediately. If detected early, kidney damage can be controlled. A healthy lifestyle, low salt intake, balanced protein intake, regular water intake, and regular checkups can help maintain long-term kidney health.
