Game of Thrones remains an absolute titan in television history, leaving a global legacy that continues to captivate millions of fans years after its final episode. Among its legendary roster of characters, few commanded the screen quite like Daenerys Targaryen, the fierce "Mother of Dragons," brought to life by British actress Emilia Clarke.
Because of her central, show-stopping role across all eight seasons, rumors have long circulated about her astronomical paychecks—specifically a claim that she took home a staggering $300,000 (approximately ₹2.5 crore) per episode during the show's grand finale.
Now, the actress has finally broken her silence, revealing the grounded truth behind those massive numbers.
"It Has Been Greatly Exaggerated"
In a candid interview with Variety, Emilia Clarke completely debunked the long-standing salary rumors, laughing off the viral figures with her signature wit.
"It’s been exaggerated. We didn’t earn that much. Can you imagine? If I had earned that much, I would have several Porsches today," Clarke clarified.
While she dismissed the sensationalized numbers, she expressed immense gratitude for what the fantasy epic provided her. She explained that her actual earnings from the HBO blockbuster were more than enough to afford a highly comfortable life, support her family financially, and critically, fund the extensive medical treatments required during her courageous real-life battles with brain aneurysms during the show's early years.
Dissolving Into the Mother of Dragons
Reflecting on her decade-long journey with the character, Clarke opened up about the intense artistic dedication it took to rule Westeros.
"I played every role I was given in each season, imagining myself as Daenerys, not Emilia," she shared. "I was always thinking about what she would do. I did everything with that in mind."
