Hyundai is preparing to expand its SUV lineup in India with the upcoming Bayon. The company has reportedly opened bookings for the new SUV ahead of its expected festive-season launch.

Customers can reportedly book the Hyundai Bayon for ₹11,000 through Hyundai's official website or at authorised dealerships. The SUV is expected to sit between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai's lineup, making it smaller than the Creta but larger than the Venue.

The company has already teased the upcoming model, while test versions of the SUV have also been spotted on Indian roads.

Crossover-Inspired Exterior Design

Unlike the traditional boxy SUV design, the Hyundai Bayon is expected to feature a more crossover-like appearance.

The front could get Hyundai's signature H-shaped LED daytime running lights, with the main headlamps positioned lower on the bumper. A rugged-looking skid plate is also expected to add to the SUV's styling.

The overall design is expected to give the Bayon a modern and sporty appearance while maintaining the practicality associated with an SUV.

Interior Could Take Inspiration From the i20

Inside the cabin, the Bayon is expected to borrow several design elements from the latest-generation Hyundai i20.

The dashboard could feature a dual-screen setup, while physical controls for the air-conditioning system are expected to be retained.

Other expected design elements include a steering wheel similar to the i20, vertically positioned AC vents and similarly styled door panels.

Hyundai is also expected to equip the Bayon with a range of comfort, convenience and safety features.

Petrol Engine and Possible CNG Option

The Hyundai Bayon is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine.

The engine could be offered with both a manual gearbox and CVT automatic transmission. While the same engine is used in the Creta, its power output and tuning could be different in the Bayon.

One of the more interesting possibilities is a factory-fitted CNG option. If introduced, the Bayon could become Hyundai's first CNG-powered passenger vehicle in India measuring more than four metres in length.

Expected Price

The Hyundai Bayon is expected to be priced in the range of approximately ₹9 lakh to ₹14 lakh (ex-showroom).

With its positioning between the Venue and Creta, the Bayon could give Hyundai another offering in India's competitive SUV market.

What About the Venue?

The Bayon's arrival is also expected to bring changes to Hyundai's existing SUV lineup. Reports suggest that the company could eventually discontinue the Venue as the new model takes over its position.

However, the final product positioning, variants, pricing and the future of the Venue will depend on Hyundai's official announcement.
