Gemini AI—integrated into Google’s popular services like Gmail and Calendar—uses your interactions by default to improve future AI models. If you don’t want your chats to be used for training, you can easily turn off this setting. Here’s how:
Step-by-Step: Turn Off Gemini Chat Data Training
-
Go to Gemini on Your Browser:
-
Visit gemini.google.com in your browser.
-
Sign in with your Google account.
-
-
Access Settings:
-
Tap the three-bar menu (≡) on the left side of the page.
-
Click on Settings.
-
-
Manage Activity:
-
In the settings menu, find and click on Gemini App Activity (or Activity).
-
Note: Google might soon rename this to Keep Activity after an update, but the method stays the same.
-
-
-
Turn Off Gemini Activity:
-
You’ll see a toggle button next to Gemini activity.
-
Tap “Turn Off” to disable Gemini from using your conversations for training its AI.
-
Once off, Google can’t use your new chats for AI training.
-
Why Turn Off This Setting?
-
Privacy: Your personal conversations won't be used to improve or train Google’s future AI models.
-
Control: You decide how your data is used—even when using AI-powered chatbots.
Tip:
These changes apply to both the Gemini web app and Google’s related apps where Gemini appears. If you use Gemini in Google services (like Gmail), it’s a good idea to check and update these settings there as well.
