WhatsApp's Passkey feature is a new way of login. In this, users do not need to enter OTP again and again. When you login, WhatsApp verifies your identity through your phone's fingerprint, face unlock or PIN. That is, the security feature of the device itself becomes your WhatsApp login identity. This new Passkey feature makes the login process easier and faster.

What is the difference between OTP and Passkey?

An OTP is a code sent to your phone via SMS. Users enter this OTP manually in the app. This makes the WhatsApp login process easier and faster. This code sent via SMS is valid for a limited time and then expires. However, Passkey doesn't use any code. This feature uses only fingerprint, face unlock, or a PIN. You can then log in to WhatsApp directly. This process is much easier than using an OTP.  

Who provides more security?

When it comes to security, the passkey feature is considered more secure than an OTP. OTPs can sometimes be hacked using methods like phishing or SIM swaps. However, a passkey uses your biometric details (like fingerprints or face unlock). These details are difficult to copy or steal.

Passkey or OTP, which is better for you?

When asked which is more secure and better, an OTP or a passkey, many people favor the phone's passkey feature. The passkey feature is always considered superior to an OTP. It's also a secure method. Sometimes, the OTP SMS may take a while to arrive. However, this is much less likely to happen with a passkey.
