Hema Malini Remembers Dharmendra: “He Was Loved Across the World, Fans Surrounded Him Even Abroad”

Veteran actress Hema Malini became emotional while recalling the global popularity of her husband, legendary actor Dharmendra. Speaking about his legacy, she said that Dharmendra was not just a star in India but enjoyed immense love and admiration in foreign countries as well.

Recently, Dharmendra was remembered on an international platform during the BAFTA Awards, alongside some of the world’s most celebrated artists. Reacting to this honour, Hema Malini expressed pride and emotion, saying that his impact truly crossed borders.

“He was embraced everywhere,” says Hema

In an interview with Variety India, Hema Malini said,

“He was someone whose presence transcended borders. He had fans in every part of the world. Oh my God, the way he was embraced in foreign countries.”

She recalled how admirers would gather around Dharmendra whenever he travelled abroad, highlighting his universal appeal and timeless charm.

Signing films together just to spend time

Hema Malini also shared a personal anecdote from their early years together. She revealed that during the peak of their careers, they hardly found time to be together outside of work. To make up for that, they chose to act in multiple films together.

“We didn’t travel much together. The only time we spent together was on film sets, so we signed many films together just to stay close,” she said.

“I miss him every minute”

Speaking emotionally, Hema Malini admitted that she misses Dharmendra deeply.

“I keep asking myself, ‘Is he really gone? When will I see him again?’ I miss him every minute,” she shared.

The couple got married in 1980 and have two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.

Dharmendra’s favourite film

Hema Malini also spoke about Dharmendra’s favourite movies. She revealed that among his vast filmography, Chupke Chupke was particularly close to his heart. She also mentioned Sholay, calling it special due to the many cherished memories they created while filming it together.

“I haven’t watched all of his films yet, but whenever I get time, I plan to watch them one by one,” she said.
