The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain and snowfall in five states over the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, a change in weather is expected in the plains, with light rain and strong winds. Experts say that due to a western disturbance, temperatures will drop further, and the impact of the severe cold may increase in the coming days.

According to weather experts, an active Western Disturbance is currently affecting many parts of North India, and its impact will increase in the coming days. According to Dr. Naresh Kumar, this disturbance causes winds to shift northwesterly, increasing the cold. Temperatures recently dropped by 8–9 degrees Celsius in many areas.

Effect of western disturbance

Weather experts say another western disturbance is moving toward northern India on January 26, 27, and 28. Its impact will extend to Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, northern Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. On January 27, heavy rain and snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, while light rain is possible in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and northern Rajasthan.

Heavy rain alert in 5 states

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain/snow for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience heavy snowfall accompanied by strong winds on January 27. Strong winds are expected to reach 40–50 km/h, with gusts up to 60 km/h. Hailstorms are also possible in these areas.

Rain and snowfall alert in these states

The Meteorological Department has issued a rain and snowfall alert for several states across the country. This includes mountainous regions like Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, where heavy snowfall and rain is expected. Furthermore, the weather may change in the plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain is also expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala in South India.

Weather in the plains

Light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh on January 27-28. Lightning is also possible at some locations.

Delhi-NCR Weather

According to the IMD, Delhi will remain partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. Light fog and cold conditions will persist. On January 27, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30–40 km/h are expected

Weather in Uttar Pradesh

The activation of a Western Disturbance will bring moderate rain and thunderstorms to many parts of Uttar Pradesh. Temperatures are expected to drop by 3–6 degrees between January 26 and 28. Dense fog is likely in many areas on the mornings of January 26 and 27.

Uttarakhand Weather

Partially cloudy weather is expected in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand, while the plains will remain dry. Light rain is expected in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, or snowfall in areas above 2,800 meters. The long weekend is also expected to bring a large influx of tourists

Himachal Pradesh Weather

Dense clouds and severe cold blanketed Himachal Pradesh on Saturday. Traffic was disrupted on more than 680 roads in the state due to earlier snowfall in the hilly areas. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy snowfall in high-altitude areas on January 25. Heavy snowfall and rain are expected in the state from January 26 to 28. A ‘yellow alert’ for dense fog and cold wave has been issued for Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Sirmaur.
