On this day, married women keep a Nirjala Vrat for the long life of their husbands, and unmarried girls keep a Nirjala Vrat for the wish of a desired groom. It is believed that Mother Parvati also kept this fast with rigorous penance to get Lord Shiva.

The word 'Hartalika' is made up of 'Harat' (abduction) and 'Aalika' (friend), which means the abduction of Goddess Parvati by a friend.

This was done so that Mother Parvati's marriage does not happen without her wish. This fast is a symbol of sacrifice and love.

  • Listen to or read the story of Hartalika Teej during the puja.
  • In the end, perform Aarti and then distribute Prasad among everyone.
  • Take the blessings of the elders.
  • There is also the importance of staying awake on the night of Hartalika Teej.
  • Sing bhajans and kirtans at night and meditate on Lord Shiva and Parvati.
