Grand ‘Sita Charitam’ Performance in Mumbai Captivates Audiences with 513 Artists and 4D Live Experience

The grand premiere of ‘Sita Charitam’ at Mumbai’s Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre mesmerized the audience, immersing them in the vibrant and mystical world of the Ramayana as told through Sita’s perspective. Featuring 513 artists, the production offered a stunning 4D live art experience blending over 30 traditional and contemporary art forms. The audience responded with a five-minute standing ovation, applauding the spectacular presentation.
Directed by acclaimed choreographer and dancer Srividya Varchasvi, the show received high praise from celebrities present. Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey called it “amazing” and lauded Srividya’s work as both director and actress. Popular actress Hina Khan expressed her admiration, sharing that she had goosebumps throughout the performance and was impressed by the children’s flawless lip-syncing and Srividya’s embodiment of Sita.
The event attracted many prominent figures, including Maharashtra High Court Chief Justice Alok Aradhe, television and film star Ada Khan, singer Anuradha Paudwal, and veteran actors Pankaj Berry and Dalip Tahil. Over 50 children from the Art of Living Free School in Dharavi also performed, their confident presence highlighting the power of arts and education to uplift and unite communities. Their participation was deeply moving for the audience, showcasing how children from disadvantaged backgrounds brought this timeless epic to life.
Renowned singer Anuradha Paudwal praised the production’s hard work and cultural significance, emphasizing its role in spreading interest in Indian heritage and spirituality.
The script, inspired by more than 20 versions of the Ramayana and the wisdom of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar, presents an immersive narrative of Sita’s life—from love and sacrifice to wisdom and devotion. It integrates classical dance, folk art, puppetry, original music, and digital innovation to create a unique storytelling experience.
Srividya Varchasvi, known for mega productions like The Rhythm Within (Lincoln Center, New York) and The Cosmic Rhythm (World Culture Festival, New Delhi), expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming response in Mumbai. She shared that portraying Sita’s life with emotional honesty and relevance was a deeply inspiring journey.
Besides captivating audiences, the show also functioned as a fundraiser supporting the education of over 100,000 rural and tribal children through 1,327 Art of Living Free Schools. Plans are underway for the production to tour other Indian cities and international locations, continuing its mission to inspire devotion and knowledge through artistic storytelling.
