Indian EV maker Ather Energy has rolled out a major software upgrade for its popular electric scooter Ather 450X. The scooter now gets Infinite Cruise, a smart cruise control system, through an over-the-air (OTA) update, making daily city riding more relaxed and intelligent.

This feature was first introduced on the Ather 450 Apex in August 2025 and is now being extended to the 450X lineup. Newly manufactured Ather 450X scooters will come with this feature pre-installed.

Cruise Control, Designed for Indian Cities

Unlike conventional cruise control systems that are meant for highways and higher speeds, Infinite Cruise has been designed specifically for urban Indian riding conditions.

According to Ather, the system works best in environments where:

• Speeds are often below 30 km/h

• Traffic is unpredictable

• Roads are uneven

• Frequent braking and acceleration are required

This makes it especially useful for crowded city commutes rather than open highways.

Automatically Adjusts to Riding Conditions

What sets Infinite Cruise apart is that it does not switch off when the rider brakes or accelerates.

Instead:

• The system stays active continuously

• It automatically adapts to the new speed after braking or throttle input

• Riders don’t need to re-enable cruise control repeatedly

This significantly reduces throttle fatigue and improves control in stop-and-go traffic.

Three Smart Cruise Modes Explained

Infinite Cruise works between 10 km/h and 90 km/h and offers three intelligent riding modes:

City Cruise

• Adjusts speed dynamically based on traffic flow

• Ideal for everyday city riding

Hill Control

• Maintains a steady speed on inclines and declines

• Uses Ather’s Magic Braking algorithm to manage regenerative braking

Crawl Control

• Designed for very low-speed riding

• Useful on broken, uneven, or congested roads

• Works with Multimode Traction Control to improve grip on slippery surfaces

Who Will Get This Update?

Ather has confirmed that the Infinite Cruise OTA update will be rolled out to around 44,000 Ather 450X owners who purchased their scooters on or after January 1, 2025.
