Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) members no longer need to visit an EPFO office for many routine tasks. Over the past few years, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has expanded its digital services, making it easier for subscribers to manage their PF accounts from home.
If you're a salaried employee, these online facilities can save both time and effort.
1. Check Your PF Balance Anytime
EPF members can easily view their Provident Fund balance without visiting an office. The balance can be checked through the EPFO Member Portal, the UMANG app, SMS service, or missed call facility, provided the Universal Account Number (UAN) is activated.
Regularly checking your balance also helps ensure that your employer is depositing PF contributions on time.
2. Submit PF Withdrawal Claims Online
Eligible members can now apply for full or partial PF withdrawals online for purposes such as medical emergencies, home purchase, education, marriage, or retirement.
Online claim submission has significantly reduced paperwork and speeds up the settlement process compared to traditional offline applications.
3. Update KYC Details Digitally
Keeping Know Your Customer (KYC) details updated is essential for smooth PF transactions.
Members can link or update details such as:
- Aadhaar
- PAN
- Bank account
- Passport
- Driving Licence
Verified KYC information helps prevent delays in claim processing.
4. Transfer PF Account After Changing Jobs
Changing employers no longer means filling out lengthy transfer forms.
Employees can request the transfer of their PF balance from the previous employer to the new employer through the EPFO portal using their UAN. This helps maintain continuous service records and avoids multiple inactive PF accounts.
5. Download Your Passbook Online
Members can access and download their PF passbook online to view monthly contributions made by both the employee and employer.
The passbook provides a complete transaction history, making it easier to monitor deposits and verify account records whenever required.
Why Activating Your UAN Is Important
Most EPFO online services require an activated Universal Account Number (UAN). Once activated and linked with Aadhaar and a registered mobile number, members can access almost all major services without visiting an EPFO office.
Tips for PF Members
- Keep your Aadhaar and PAN linked with your UAN.
- Regularly verify employer contributions.
- Update your bank details whenever they change.
- Complete KYC verification to avoid claim delays.
- Avoid creating multiple UANs when switching jobs.
