A heartbreaking incident occurred in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, on the occasion of Karva Chauth. An elderly couple allegedly ended their lives by consuming poison at the banks of the Ganges River. The couple, identified as 72-year-old Puran Singh and his wife Chameli Devi, were residents of Mohammadpur Badhera village under the Atrauli police station area.

According to police reports, the duo brought the poisonous substance with them and met at the Ramghat Ganges ghat, where they consumed it together. Eyewitnesses informed the authorities after the couple collapsed. Family members, along with villagers, rushed them to Aligarh Hospital, where Puran Singh was declared dead on arrival. His wife, Chameli Devi, succumbed during treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple frequently argued at home. Their daughter-in-law, Rajkumari, told police that Puran Singh was suffering from tuberculosis and often ignored medical advice and dietary restrictions, leading to regular quarrels between him and his wife. On the morning of Karva Chauth, another dispute reportedly took place, after which the couple went to the Ganges to take a holy dip.

At the ghat, Puran Singh allegedly gave poison to his wife before consuming it himself. Police have informed the family and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The matter is under investigation to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the suicide.
