East Champaran: Youth Tied and Assaulted Over Theft Suspicion, Video Goes Viral

An incident of alleged mob violence has surfaced from Bihar’s East Champaran, raising serious concerns over law and order. In the Pipra Police Station area, a young man was allegedly tied with a rope and brutally assaulted by a group of locals on suspicion of theft. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The victim has been identified as Vikas Kumar, a resident of Maharani village. According to reports, he was returning home from a relative’s house when he was stopped by a group of youths in Chakwara village.

Allegations and Assault

As per the complaint, several individuals, including Abhishek Kumar, Vivek Kumar, and Nandkishore Paswan, allegedly accused Vikas of theft without any verification. The victim was reportedly tied to a pole with a rope and beaten in public. The viral video purportedly shows him being kicked and punched while others encourage the assault. Despite his pleas, the attackers allegedly continued the violence.

Police Action

Following the incident, the victim’s father, Jagdish Mahato, submitted a written complaint at the Pipra police station. Police officials confirmed that an FIR has been registered, and the matter is under investigation. The authenticity of the viral video and the role of the accused are being examined.

Concern Over Mob Justice

The incident has sparked outrage among locals and renewed concerns over the growing tendency of mob justice. Residents and social activists have demanded strict action against those involved, stressing that taking the law into one’s own hands is a serious criminal offence and a violation of basic human rights.

Police have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken after a thorough investigation.
