Diwali brings joy, lights, and an abundance of sweets. From Dhanteras to Badi Diwali, homes are often overflowing with treats like gulab jamun, rasgullas, burfi, and assorted mithai. Instead of letting them spoil, you can give them a twist and transform them into exciting desserts that the whole family will love.
1. Gulab Jamun Trifle
If you have leftover gulab jamuns, you can make a layered trifle:
-
Cut gulab jamuns in half and place them in a glass.
-
Add a layer of vanilla custard, followed by whipped cream and chopped nuts.
-
Add another layer of rasgullas and custard, and garnish with a cherry.
-
Chill in the freezer before serving for a rich and indulgent dessert.
2. Sweet Paratha with Mixed Sweets
Leftover mixed sweets can be turned into a unique paratha:
-
Crush the sweets and mix them with dried fruits.
-
Spread the mixture on a paratha and cook with ghee for a sweet, crispy treat.
-
Alternatively, fry the crushed sweets with ghee, add nuts, and enjoy as a quick snack.
3. Barfi Cake
Have leftover khoya burfi or assorted burfis? Transform them into a layered barfi cake:
-
Mash the burfi and layer it with chocolate biscuit crumbs and whipped cream or hung curd.
-
Repeat layers and refrigerate until set.
-
The result is a fusion dessert cake combining traditional and modern flavors.
4. Sweet Milkshake
Turn leftover sweets into a rich shake:
-
Grind the sweets and blend with milk or yogurt.
-
Add nuts and seeds for crunch.
-
Serve chilled for a refreshing and indulgent drink.
5. Homemade Sweet Ice Cream
Create ice cream using leftover sweets:
-
Heat milk and break the sweets into small pieces.
-
Mix in milk powder, cardamom powder, and chopped nuts.
-
Pour the mixture into a container and freeze.
-
Enjoy your Diwali-inspired ice cream with a unique flavor twist.
