Are you troubled by pain, fatigue, or irregular periods? All of these symptoms could be signs of a rare disease. In this article, we'll cover five rare diseases common in women, such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, and premature ovarian insufficiency. Dr. Geeta Jain explains that these symptoms are often overlooked, thinking they're normal, which can lead to serious consequences.
Women are often aware of problems like PCOS, fibroids, or breast cancer, but there are also some rare diseases whose symptoms are often overlooked, thinking them to be normal. If these are not identified in time, they can become serious. Therefore, it is important to understand any unusual changes in the body and consult a doctor. Today, we are telling you about five such rare diseases, information about which has been shared with us by Dr. Geeta Jain, HOD Obstetrics, Gynecologist and IVF Co-Founder, Macure Hospital and Aastha Hospital, Delhi.
1. Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a rare disease that affects women. In this condition, cells similar to the lining of the uterus begin to grow outside the uterus. This can cause severe abdominal pain, heavy periods, and difficulty conceiving. Women often dismiss this condition as normal period pain, but timely treatment is essential.
2. Adenomyosis
Another rare condition is adenomyosis. In this condition, the lining of the uterus grows into its muscles. This can cause severe menstrual pain and bleeding, abdominal swelling, and anemia. This condition is more common in women over 35, but it can be difficult to diagnose without a proper checkup.
3. Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

A third rare condition is premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). This condition involves the loss of ovarian function before the age of 40, leading to irregular or even complete cessation of periods. This is often mistaken for a hormonal imbalance, but it can affect future fertility.
4. Lichen sclerosus
The fourth condition is lichen sclerosus, a rare inflammatory disease affecting the skin of the private parts. It causes symptoms such as itching, burning, and thinning of the skin. If not treated promptly, it can cause severe discomfort and infection.
5. Gestational Trophoblastic Disease
A fifth rare condition is gestational trophoblastic disease, which is caused by abnormal cell growth associated with pregnancy. Symptoms can include abnormal bleeding, excessive vomiting, and an enlarged uterus. This condition is rare, but can be completely cured with timely detection and treatment.
What to do?
Women should not ignore any unusual pain, irregular bleeding , excessive fatigue, or changes in their private parts. Regular gynecological checkups, Pap smears, and ultrasounds can help identify many diseases early. Doctors say that awareness and timely treatment are the keys to good health for women.
